This bed is very special. It is one of only two Avalon Celtic beds made and in itself is quite unique - the only one of its kind in the world.
The whole of the visible bed frame (the legs and the rear side sections) is made from solid Bog Yew from the English Fens, gnarled and knotted it is sculpted and deeply carved with Celtic knot work, undercut to give it life. The bedhead is solid Bog Oak, also from the English Fens, knotted and riven with early Celtic imagery deeply inlaid in Holy and Thorn. (As illustrated)
Bog Yew is considered to be one of the world's rarest woods and in this quality and quantity is very rare indeed. These bogwoods, believed to be between 4000 and 5000 years old were inspected by Cambridge University at the time of acquisition with samples taken and retained.
The unseen frame is of English oak with Ash slats and ironwork handmade by a local forge. It is well engineered - designed and built with a view to lasting indefinitely.
This bed is not a reproduction. It is an original concept, evocative of an age lost in the mists of time and is a stunning piece of art - its presence is emotional to many. To sleep in it is almost as a portal to another world - the experience defies description.
The AVALON 'The Lady Guinevere' is the only bed of its kind in the world and is now offered for sale with a guide price of £125,000.
The bed will be offered with a new fitted handmade English queen size mattress and new drapes, covers and floor length fitted duvet in consultation with the buyer.
The bed can be viewed at a location near Cambridge in the UK.
